Volunteer opportunity description

Read one-on-one with local school children via Zoom weekly from October 2020 to the end of April 2021. Reading occurs in 1:05 hour blocks, or half an hour per child with a five minute leeway period between your two assigned children.

This is a 25+ year program that has recently pivoted to an online version, so we are experienced in training and working with schools, children, and volunteers. This summer (2020) we piloted the online program and found that it was as rewarding as in-person Read-Aloud, and that the kids had been starved of attention from people not in their social circle, so they were very appreciative and attentive.

After attendance of a conference, you will be trained how to read with intention and animation via Zoom, how to interact with the online libraries we use, and how to fill out the weekly documentation.

Substitute Reader positions also open (stepping in for a regular reader for an hour).

You must use a desktop or laptop computer, be committed to making nearly all your volunteer sessions, and have sufficiently fast internet connection to use Zoom to its fullest extent.
